General Policy: Challenge of Library Materials
To provide an objective, clear and uniform method to discuss items which have been challenged by the public.
The Taber Public Library will establish a committee as necessary to consider any written challenge regarding library materials. Each challenge will be considered on an individual basis with the committee making a recommendation to the Board.
1. Staff will encourage patrons who complain about materials found within the Library’s collection, to register a complaint to the Board.
2. Any complaints to the Board must be recorded on the “Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials” as attached, for which the challenger will be asked to fill out.
3. The Board will then establish a committee consisting of two (2) board members and the Library Manager. They will review the complaint from and if deemed necessary, will meet with the challenger. The committee will then make a recommendation to the Board, who will then provide a written notification of their decision to the challenger.
